hair removal lasers

Laser hair removal is the most popular method for permanent hair reduction but not all laser machines are the same. There are several choices for laser hair removal but the five most common systems include: Nd:YAG, IPL, Alexandrite, Diode and Ruby lasers. Each of these different lasers has unique advantages and limitations. The laser system that is right for you depends on your skin type, the treatment area, and the type of hair being removed. In this two-part series from Santé Medical Aesthetics on the five top hair removal lasers, you will learn about the different systems and discover which type of laser will work best for your unique needs and personal goals.

To help you better understand the differences between the various laser systems, check out this article on how laser hair removal works.

SKIP to Part II: The Pros and Cons of Different Hair Removal Lasers >>

Alexandrite Laser Systems:

Candela, Cynosure Apogee, GentleLase, EpiTouch Plus

The Alexandrite laser is the most common laser system used for permanent hair reduction. The Alexandrite operates at a wavelength of 755nm, which targets melanin in hair follicles. This shorter wavelength makes the Alexandrite system effective for individuals with light to olive skin tones. The Alexandrite is the fastest laser of all the hair removal lasers, making it ideal for treating larger areas. Because of its fast pulse repetition,  the Alexandrite laser is also one of the more painful lasers for hair removal.

Diode Laser Systems:

MeDioStar, SopranoXL, SLP, F1 Diode, Epistar, Apex , LightSheer, LaserLite,

The Diode Laser system is a more recent advancement in hair removal technology. It differs from other laser systems by using diodes, also known as semiconductors as its light source. Diode lasers operate at 800 to 810nm wavelengths. The longer wavelength allows the laser to penetrate deeper into the hair follicle with minimal damage to surrounding skin or tissue. This makes it ideal for removing coarse hair, such as back hair or chest hair. Consequently, the Diode system is a popular hair removal method for men.

Nd:YAG Laser Systems:

Cutera, Candela, Cynosure Elite, CoolGlide, Lyra, Sciton

Nd:YAG laser systems are the newest technology for laser hair removal. Nd:YAG stands for Neodymium (Nd) and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG.) The Nd:YAG laser system is effective in several cosmetic applications including laser skin resurfacing to improve hyperpigmentation and laser tattoo removal. When used to remove hair, a carbon lotion is applied to the skin, allowing hair follicles to absorb the lotion. Carbon is a better chromophore (pigment that absorbs light) than melanin for attracting the specific wavelength of the Nd:YAG laser. The carbon in the hair absorbs the light energy from the Nd:YAG laser, damaging the follicle, while protecting the surrounding tissue. Because the Nd:YAG laser targets the carbon and not the melanin in the hair follicle, this laser system is safe on all skin types, including Asian skin tones, distinguishing the Nd:YAG from other hair removal lasers.

Ruby Laser Systems:

RubyStar , EpiPulse Ruby, Palomar E2000

Ruby lasers were the first systems developed for hair removal. While Ruby lasers utilize the oldest technology for laser hair removal, this type of laser is very effective for individuals with light skin tones. The Ruby system uses a short wavelength (694nm,) ideal for targeting melanin, the pigment that absorbs light and gives color to our hair and skin. Ruby lasers have 2-second pauses between laser pulses. This long duration makes laser treatments with the Ruby laser more tolerable, but also increases treatment duration and is therefore ideal for treating smaller areas.

IPL Systems

IPL systems Aculight, Quantum, PhotoDerm, Epilight, Vasculight

IPL systems for hair removal use intense pulsed light, not a true laser, to initiate photothermolysis. The thermal energy from the IPL penetrates the melanin found in hair to damage the follicle. IPL systems are customizable, allowing the technician to adjust parameters to better meet the needs and characteristics of the patient. This includes the size of the wavelength, the duration of pulse, and the intensity of energy.

Cool Sculpting FAQ : Freeze Fat in Dallas, TX

Cool Sculpting is the fat freezing procedure that is transforming the bodies of millions of men and women across the globe. Discover more about the popular non-invasive fat reduction treatment by learning the answers to the most commonly asked Cool Sculpting questions.

Is Cool Sculpting Right for Me?

Cool Sculpting is intended for healthy men and women who struggle with stubborn fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss treatment. The best way to find out if Cool Sculpting is right for you is to schedule a complimentary consultation from Santé Medical Aesthetics.

Freeze Away Fat with CoolSculpting

From Santé Medical Aesthetics: The Premier CoolSculpting Dallas Provider

CoolSculpting is the only FDA cleared fat reduction treatment that safely and effectively reduces stubborn bulges by exposing fat cells to controlled cooling.

Can Cool Sculpting reduce fat from anywhere on the body?

CoolSculpting can spot reduce bulges starting at the small fat deposits above the knees all the way up to the submental region where double chins form. The FDA has cleared Cool Sculpting for targeting fat in the following areas:

  • Abdomen (belly fat)
  • Submental region (double chins)
  • Small fat deposits by the knees or arm pits (bra bulge)
  • The back and chest (moobs)
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Underneath the buttocks (banana roll)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Upper arms

How long are Cool Sculpting Treatments?

CoolSculpting is commonly referred to as “lunch time lipo” because most treatments can be performed under an hour. Many areas can be treated with the new line of CoolSculpting applicators in as little as 35 minutes. However, exact treatment time varies depending on the specific area being targeted, the CoolSculpting applicator being used and how many cooling cycles are performed during your visit to Santé Medical Aesthetics.

Dual Sculpting is also available from Santé Medical Aesthetics to double the treatment area, in half the time by using two Cool Sculpting machines at once.

Where does the fat go?

Unlike weight loss treatments that shrink fat cells, Cool Sculpting eliminates fat cells from the body. During the treatment, fat cells are frozen and undergo apoptosis, or cell death. The lymphatic system collects the destroyed fat cells and processes them out of the body in the form of waste.

How much does Cool Sculpting Cost?

CoolSculpting is one of the most affordable fat reduction treatments available. Exact CoolSculpting prices vary, depending on the treatment area, the applicator used, and the amount of cooling cycles needed to achieve the desired aesthetic. During your complimentary consultation, exact CoolSculpting prices will be discussed in detail.

As the premier Dallas CoolSculpting provider, Santé Medical Aesthetics commonly runs new client promotions offering up to 25% off CoolSculpting cost. Call Santé Medical Aesthetics today to learn about current promotions and more ways to save.

Are Cool Sculpting Results Permanent?

CoolSculpting results are scientifically proven to be long lasting. In a longitudinal study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, researchers followed the results of Cool Sculpting patients over the span of 9 years and determined “local reductions in fat have significant longevity in these subjects and suggest that results from cryolipolysis may be very long-lasting.”

How does laser hair removal work?

laser hair removalHow Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Simple, painless, and effective. Laser hair removal is one of the most popular methods of reducing unwanted body hair so that you can achieve the perfect silky-smooth look. Designed for permanent hair reductions, laser hair removal side-steps the fast regrowth that can occur after shaving, tweezing, or waxing by removing hair at the root, so that it stays gone for longer – even permanently in most cases.*

Ever since laser hair removal was first FDA-approved in the mid-1990s for the purpose of “permanent” hair reduction,” the technology has evolved into a streamlined, efficient, and pain-free way to banish hair anywhere on the body.

As the authority of laser hair removal in Southlake, TX, Santé Medical Aesthetics provides everything you need to know about laser hair removal, and what it can do for your beauty routine.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser Hair Removal is an aesthetic treatment that uses innovative “SPTL,” or Selective Photothermolysis, to remove unwanted hair from the body. Many laser systems provide hair removal. The best laser hair removal results come from highly trained experts using top of the line technology. One of the best systems for laser hair removal is Candela. For many candidates, the Candela laser system can remove hair from nearly anywhere on the body, including the face, torso, armpits, legs, bikini area, and more.

The Candela system focuses a specific wavelength of light energy onto an area of the skin. This wavelength penetrates the hair follicle without causing any damage to the surrounding skin cells. The root of the hair follicle absorbs the wavelength, which causes damage to the growth phase of the hair, causing it to drop away from the skin. In most cases, laser hair removal can also destroy the follicle to such an extent that it prevents future hair growth. Importantly, hair must be in the active growth stage during the laser treatment for the laser to have full effect.

Laser Hair Removal is the most popular method of permanent hair reduction. Learn more about Laser Hair Removal from Santé Medical Aesthetics. Conveniently located in Southlake, Texas, Santé is the premier Laser Hair Removal Dallas provider.

Why is it Called “Permanent” Hair Removal?

Unlike waxing, shaving, and tweezing, laser devices like the Candela system have been approved by the FDA as a “permanent” source of hair reduction. Because laser hair removal works by destroying hair follicles, this prevents the hair from growing back. However, individual results can vary depending on how resilient a follicle might be.*

As mentioned above, for laser hair removal to have a permanent effect, it must be used on hair in the “Anagen” stage of growth. At any moment, around 20-30% of the hair on your body will be in the Anagen stage. This means that each hair removal session will only destroy a specific amount of the hair in the treated region. In other words, most clients require multiple sessions to achieve full coverage hair removal.

Though results require some patience, the benefits of laser hair removal can include:

  • Painless hair removal with no down time
  • Long-term hair reduction
  • Silky smooth skin
  • Reduced risk of razor burn and waxing discomfort
  • Minimal risk of ingrown hairs

Where Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal systems like the Candela system can be effective on various parts of the body. However, it’s worth noting that the number of hair removal sessions required for each area of the body can vary. For instance, because facial hair is often less dense than leg hair, there may be fewer sessions required.

The easiest way to make sure that you’re prepared for your laser hair removal experience is to speak to the experts and discuss the treatment course that’s right for you. Like any cosmetic treatment, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to hair removal. Here at Santé Medical Aesthetics we’ll help you to find the solution that works best for you. Acne Scar Treatment: Part II: Finding the Best Acne Scar Treatment for You

In part I of the acne scar treatment series, you learned about what causes acne scars and the different types of acne scars. Knowing this will help you determine which acne scar treatment is best for you. Typically, treatment plans for acne scars combine multiple modalities to achieve the best results possible.

<< Part I: Different Types of Acne Scars

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are cosmetic injections composed of a volumizing gel. Fillers are most commonly used to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, restore age related volume loss or as lip injections. However, fillers are very effective at improving the appearance of depressed acne scars as well. By injecting the filler below the depressed acne scar, the volumizing gel plumps up the scar, bringing the depression closer to the surface. This effectively fills in and smooths out pitted acne scars, decreasing the shadowing that emphasizes this type of scarring.¹

Acne Scar Treatment with Dermal Fillers are good for all depressed acne scar but especially effective on shallow boxcar scars.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is a popular acne scar treatment used in conjunction with other procedures. Laser skin resurfacing improves the appearance of pitted acne scars by stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen at the site of the scar. Newly created collagen fills in the depressed scar, smoothing undulations and plumping up depressions. Laser skin resurfacing is customizable to the patient’s needs, skin tones, and type of acne scar.

Acne Scar Treatment with Laser skin resurfacing is especially effective on shallow boxcar scars and rolling acne scars.

Photofacial / IPL Light Therapy

Photofacials can improve the appearance of pitted acne scars using the same principles of laser skin resurfacing; penetrating the acne scar with thermal energy to stimulate the body’s own healing process for collagen production and tissue regeneration. In addition, Photofacials, also known as Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy can improve the appearance of acne marks by targeting the build-up of melanin associated with PIH. IPL therapy can also correct vascular injuries, improving the appearance of red macules related to PIE.

Acne Scar Treatment with IPL Photofacials are especially effective on pigmented acne scars, Boxcar scars and Rolling Acne Scars.

Microneedling is another popular treatment for the improvement of acne scars. Like IPL Photofacials and laser skin resurfacing, Microneedling stimulates the body’s natural healing process to create more collagen.

Acne scar treatment using Microneedling is especially effective on depressed acne scars.

Acne Medications

Prescription medications can improve the appearance of raised acne scars. Topical medications such as Hydroquinone can bleach or lighten dark macules associated with PIE. Steroids, either applied topically or injected into the scar can greatly shrink and flatten keloid acne scars.

Acne Scar Medications are especially effective on raised acne scars.
